Wet process
Acid Wash
A wash that creates strong, irregular contrast between very light and dark areas, with a marbled look. Despite the name, it uses no acid: the effect comes from an oxidising agent.

- How it works
- Pumice stones or other abrasives are soaked in an oxidising agent and tumbled with dry or slightly damp garments, without a water bath. Where the stone touches, colour is removed unevenly. Garments are then rinsed and neutralised to stop the reaction.
- Result
- A marbled or mottled look with high contrast, in an 80s style. Every garment turns out slightly different.
- Best applications
- Vintage, rock or retro-inspired collections that call for a bold look.
- Garments it is commonly used on
- Jeans, denim jackets and skirts, and also dyed T-shirts and sweatshirts.
- Care points and remarks
- Oxidising agents require handling with protective equipment and full neutralisation so no residues are left to weaken the fabric. Results are hard to repeat exactly between batches, and effluent treatment is a relevant environmental point.
