- How it works
- Pigment sits mainly on the surface of the fibres, held by a binder, instead of penetrating them. When the garment is washed, part of the pigment comes off, especially in high-friction areas such as seams, collars and cuffs.
- Result
- Soft, slightly uneven colour with lighter seams and edges, and the soft hand of a well-worn garment.
- Best applications
- Casual and vintage-style collections that call for a faded, relaxed colour.
- Garments it is commonly used on
- T-shirts, sweatshirts, polos, twill trousers and cotton shirts.
- Care points and remarks
- Colour keeps changing with home washing and rub fastness is usually lower than in dye-dyed garments, which is worth reflecting in the care instructions.
