- How it works
- A jet of compressed air carrying sand or another abrasive is aimed at chosen areas such as thighs, knees or seat. The impact removes some surface colour and lightly abrades the fabric.
- Result
- Lighter areas with a naturally worn look and a soft transition to the original colour.
- Best applications
- Localised wear effects on denim.
- Garments it is commonly used on
- Jeans, denim jackets and skirts.
- Care points and remarks
- Blasting with sand containing silica is linked to a serious health risk for operators (silicosis). It has therefore been banned in some countries and many brands no longer accept it. The same effect is now often achieved with alternatives such as hand scraping, laser or chemical application.
